11/05/23: Typically, African violets have peat in their soil mix. I was curious to see how Woollets, wool pellets, would do as a replacement for peat moss. For my trial, I found two similarly sized African violets.
The first was repotted with Woollets, wool pellets, organic seed starting mix and perlite. I used an 8:2:1 ratio of organic seed starter, perlite and Woollets respectively for that plant.
The second African violet was repotted with peat moss, organic seed starting mix and perlite. As in the first mix, I used an 8:2:1 ratio of seed starter, perlite and peat.
Both plants were repotted with a dampened soil mixture, marked, and set in a saucer of water to soak up.
11/15/23: It’s been 10 days and I haven’t watered the African Violets at all. The peat moss plant soil is bone dry and powdery, The Woollets plant is still slightly damp. The Woollets have swelled up and kept the plant moist.
The Woollets plant is visibly bigger! The plants have both been watered today. We will check on them again in a week or so. Stay tuned!
Thanks for reading and for being a part of the Woollets journey.
